06.04.2009 The Good, the Bad and the Randomly Selected
The first Arbitrary Art Grant has been awarded! As you may recall, “Dada Economics,” created for Bumbershoot by Greg Lundgren’s Vital 5 Productions, is a series of Arbitrary Art Grants that will be rewarding creative participation ($500 at a time!) all summer long, culminating at the Festival.
In this first grant, contestants created a sculpture in a shopping cart using materials found only in a grocery store. Winners are chosen randomly, not judged on talent or experience. Check out how RANDOM “randomly selected” actually is in this video of Vital 5’s selection process.

The next Arbitrary Art Grant will be awarded to someone actively protesting performance art at the NW New Works Festival on June 5th, so head over to Vital 5 Productions to see how you can be the next Grantee.
