“Ruleta Rusa” by Brooklyn-based band Cordero is an initially haunting example of what could be described as hispanic jazz. Ani Cordero’s voice rocks with gentle force and ghostly backup vocals give it a particularly sultry sound with pronounced percussion that isn’t overbearing. The music also carries hints of their ties to Tucson, Puerto Rico and New York.
